Anchorage Extends Fines-Grace Period for Late STR Registration to Oct. 1

Host Alaska, along with Airbnb, VRBO, and other tourism industry voices, asked the Municipality to push the registration deadline past peak season. The Assembly agreed on July 21 (AR 2026-213), giving owners who receive a violation notice up to 30 extra days to register before fines apply, a grace period that runs through October 1, 2026. More than 2,200 Anchorage rentals have registered since the portal opened May 1.

Anchorage Assembly Approves STR Registration, Rejects 5% Vacation Rental Tax

In December 2025, the Assembly voted 8-4 against a proposed 5% tax on vacation rental stays but approved a municipal registration requirement under AMC 10.90. The registration portal opened May 1, 2026 — existing hosts were asked to register by July 30, and STRs are now explicitly permitted by right in all residential zones. Juneau Implements Marketplace Facilitator Rule — Platforms Now Remit Taxes Directly

As of July 1, 2025, Airbnb and VRBO collect and remit lodging taxes directly for Juneau bookings. Juneau now has 510 registered STRs, with 13% identified as out-of-state owned.
