Anchorage's STR registration portal opened this month under a workable framework. That framework was written without an Alaska host association at the table. Juneau already has its own; the Mat-Su, the Kenai Peninsula, and the State Legislature will take their turns. An organized statewide voice is valuable in those conversations.
Membership also funds the organization's operating budget — regulatory tracking, research, regional council coordination, and statewide communications all require resources.
